Web design agencies - What to look for

It's good to talk

Web design agencies - What to look for
1 - A little bit of history
2 - Sticky moments
3 - It's good to talk
4 - Going live

Creating a great website involves constant consultation between you and the new media agency you choose. It shouldn't simply be a matter of leaving them to it after a single meeting to discuss how the site will be constructed.

Although you will ultimately decide on the structure and functionality of the site, the agency should be recommending ways to improve on your own idea of site specification.

Don't allow the designers to go off and convert a few scribblings you've made on a notepad into HTML. The designer should incorporate your suggestions in a much richer and more dynamic environment.

Also, communication shouldn't stop at the time of delivery. The first few months after 'going live' with a new site are crucial to any business. This is especially the case if you are planning to update your website in-house. Staff may need to be trained in the use of content management systems, database adminstration and other technologies.

Many design agencies will also offer to take care of everything for you, from launching your site, to hosting and updating it as and when it is required. Maintenance contracts can be especially attractive to SMEs that don't have the resources to dedicate excusively to their website. Another plus side is that the agency you choose will already be familiar with the design and functionality of your site, so deligating site management can also prove to be more cost-effective.

Make sure that the agency you choose is able to continue supporting you after the delivery of your website. Post-launch support and training is a crucial but often overlooked consideration.
